Forge FC took over first place in the CPL with a 3-1 away win against Valour FC on Saturday.
With the win, the Hamilton side leapfrogged to the top of the table with 13 points, one more than Cavalry FC and FC Edmonton—both of which were forced to share the spoils following a nil-nil draw in Al Classic on Friday.
After a cagey start, Forge opened the scoring thanks to Anthony Novak’s long solo run and pinpoint shot from a difficult angle.
The pace picked up in the second half as Valour searched for the equalizer. Forge, however, had more in the tank, with Novak notching his second of the day after muscling his way through the penalty area in the 72nd minute to make it 2-0.
Novak’s brace was the beginning of a frenzied stretch which resulted in a Valour penalty in the 75th minute, which Michael Petrasso buried.
But that was as close as Valour would come as Forged restored its two goal lead, less than a minute later, as Chris Nanco made it 3-1 to seal the win.

Pacific earn rare clean sheet
Pacific FC earned three points and their first clean sheet since May with a 2-0 win over York9 on Saturday.
Even though the Nine Stripes enjoyed the bulk of early possession, they generated few chances.
Pacific took advantage in the 38th minute when striker Terran Campbell nodded home an in-swinging free-kick for his league-leading eighth goal of the CPL season.
Zachary Verhoven sealed the win in injury time with a goal from half, after York9 goalkeeper Nathan Ingham left his net to join in on a corner.
