Islanders clean house, fire coach Doug Weight, GM Garth Snow

The New York Islanders' newly minted president of hockey operations, Lou Lamoriello, made his first big splash with the organization Tuesday, announcing that general manager Garth Snow and head coach Doug Weight have been fired from their respective roles.

Lamoriello will take over the GM responsibilities and immediately begin the process to find the team's next head coach, the Islanders said.
"The New York Islanders would like to thank both Garth and Doug for their dedication to the franchise," Lamoriello was quoted as saying in a press release. "Both started their tenures with the franchise as players and grew as tremendous leaders to the positions they held."
Both Snow and Weight will reportedly remain with the organization.
