Emma Stone is not into sharing!
The stunning actress joined Billy Eichner for the latest installment of Billy on the Street where he asked New Yorkers to help him convince the La La Land star to finally embrace Instagram, with mixed results.
Although many simply gushed about how much they adored the 29-year-old Oscar winner, more than one pedestrian sauntering by took Stone to task for not deciding to share her glamorous life with her legion of fans on social media.
“You don’t have an Instagram?!” one woman in cat-eye sunglasses and athleisure wear asked Stone in disbelief. “Why not?” When Stone offered a playful cringe and a shrug, the show’s host demanded that he and the passerby tell the actress why she should join Instagram. “Because everything and everyone is on there! Will Smith just made an Instagram!” Eichner heartily agreed.
When another asked Stone why she’s not on Instagram, she finally offered a weary response: “It’s a long story.” When the fan told her she needs to make an Instagram, the lauded thespian asked why.
“To show people where you are, obviously,” she answered. “Everyone wants to know where the artists are.”
Just for kicks, Eichner also asked people on the street if Stone should be in a horror film next. When one agreed, the host asked the movie star to offer fans her most terrified face for quite a while, making for some charming hilarity.
Stone isn’t the only Hollywood actress who has decided to bypass social media. In a recent interview with InStyle, fellow Oscar winner and Stone’s pal, Jennifer Lawrence, explained why she doesn’t often feel the need to share her opinion or the day-to-day details of her life on Instagram and the likes. She did, however, admit that she’s on social media.
“I’m on it. But I’m a voyeur: I watch, I don’t speak,” the 28-year-old actress explained. “There is always so much backlash. So many people are listening and paying attention, and they have so many opinions about absolutely everything. I really don’t want to welcome that unless it’s absolutely necessary. I don’t want to put myself out there for no reason. Unless I’m promoting something or something really burns my onions, you won’t hear from me.”
Here’s more on Stone from her frequent co-star, Ryan Gosling:
The Oscar-winner attended the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado where she was honored for her prestigious career. During a Q&A session, the 29-year-old actress explained how much she’s learned from the leading man — whom she’s starred in three films with — and what their friendship means to her.
“I can’t even imagine what my life would be without Ryan,” she said of her “dear, wonderful friend.”
“He’s so special,” she continued. “It makes me emotional. He’s so talented but he’s such a great person to work with because he’s so collaborative and excited about the process. He’s taught me a lot about being really generous.”
Unfortunately, Gosling could not be in attendance as his mother was renewing her wedding vows. But, Damien Chazelle, who directed the pair in La La Land, presented Stone with a silver medal. Attendees were also treated to a 25-minute retrospective of Stone’s impressive roles over the years.
This isn’t the first time Stone has expressed her deep admiration for her 37-year-old counterpart. ET spoke with her at the premiere of La La Land at the Venice Film Festival in 2016, where she explained that her fondness for the First Man star began right when they right met while prepping for Crazy, Stupid, Love.
“We really hit it off,” she gushed of their first encounters. “We’ve been just pals ever since. He is a wonderful person, but also an incredible actor. It’s a lucky thing that we get to do three. It’s not bad.” Their third film together was 2013’s Gangster Squad.
Stone can next be see in The Favourite, in which she plays Abigail Masham, a newcomer to the court of Queen Ann (Olivia Colman) in the early 18th century. She soon finds herself vying for the Queen’s favor with her own cousin Sarah Churchill (Rachel Weisz), leading to mayhem.
The Favourite arrives in theaters on Nov. 23.

Emma Stone was ready to “Shake It Off!”
The Battle of the Sexes star reunited with her old pal, Taylor Swift, at the singer’s concert at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Friday night. Stone, who has been friends with Swift since before her Easy A days, was spotted by fans as she hung out with a few other famous friends of Swift’s: Gigi Hadid and Jack Antonoff.
The crew clearly had a good time, as a Swiftie caught Hadid skipping out of their section. The 23-year-old model also praised her friend on her Instagram Story, sharing a video of her performance of “Delicate.”
Interestingly enough, Stone will soon share the screen with Swift’s boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, as the two play love interests in the period piece, The Favourite. The film, set to hit theaters in November, stars Stone as a servant character, who uses her relationship with Alwyn to advance her social status.
The actress likely knew about Swift’s relationship with Alwyn long before her fans, as the GRAMMY winner revealed in a 2012 interview with Harper’s Bazaar that her talks with Stone often revolved around their love lives (and curiously not upcoming projects).
“We never talk about fashion, about career, about our ambitions or our projects,” Swift said. “We just talk about relationships, feelings, love, and boys.”
Stone was rumored to be dating Saturday Night Live writer Dave McCary last fall. See more in the video below.
